Have you noticed the drama that usually follows the
announcement of National Exam results? The unending praise for those who
perform exceptionally well while others have to face the wrath of their parents
and still others choose to take their own lives to avoid facing the world with
bad results.
Children are labelled according to their academic
performance and this might have a very bad effect on their self esteem and thus
make their performance even worse. This situation is brought about by the fact
that all children are expected to learn the same way and only one genius is recognized, that is, the verbal linguistic genius.
However every child is born a genius and is the duty of
the parent to find out what the child is gifted in. A child’s natural gifts and
abilities could be crushed by our school system. There are many children who
are bored in school, or who leave school angry, or leave feeling like failures,
or leave vowing never to go back to school again. This is because they are made
to feel less smart when they are compared with the other kids and are held to
one IQ standard.
A parent’s most important job is to keep their children’s
geniuses and their love of learning alive especially if the children do not

enable them succeed in life.
